Monday morning, the term “mermaid body found” was trending high on Google trends after a Discovery channel show ‘Mermaids: The Body Found’ aired on television Sunday night. Similar shows have appeared on the Animal Planet and the History channel over the last few weeks. The documentary style shows have tens of thousands of people around the United Stated believing that the body of a mermaid has been found and the news has created an Internet buzz.
Over the last few weeks, hundreds of people have contacted the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) asking for proof that the body of a mermaid really exists.
On July 3, the NOAA released the following statement about mermaids: “no evidence of aquatic homanoids has ever been found.” A recent documentary-like show appeared on the Animal Planet, ‘Mermaids: The Body Found’ since the airing the show has people around the world asking…do mermaids exist? The NOAA issued a public statement about mermaids stating that no, they do not.
Animal Planet’s website for the show states that the film: "is science fiction based on some real events and scientific theory" and “paints a wildly convincing picture of the existence of mermaids, what they may look like, and why they’ve stayed hidden ... until now."
